Common questions
Business energy, answered
Is business energy covered by the Ofgem price cap?+
No. The Ofgem price cap applies to domestic customers only. Business energy contracts have no cap, which is why businesses that roll onto deemed or out-of-contract rates can pay significantly more than the negotiated market rate.
What are deemed or out-of-contract rates?+
When a fixed business energy contract ends without a new one agreed, your supplier moves you onto deemed or out-of-contract rates. These are typically the most expensive rates a supplier offers. Check your bill for the words "deemed", "variable", "rollover" or "out of contract".
How is mybusinessdeals paid?+
We are paid a commission by the supplier when you take out a contract, never by you. We tell you the amount of that commission in writing before you sign anything.
Do I have to switch supplier?+
No. A benchmark review shows you what your rate should be against the current market. If your existing deal is competitive we will tell you so. Many of our best outcomes are renegotiated with a customer’s existing supplier.
How long does a business energy switch take?+
Most business energy switches complete within two to four weeks of the contract being signed, though timing depends on your supplier and your current contract end date.
